MONESSEN – Two Monessen men were shot Thursday night in what appears to be a home invasion in the city in Westmoreland County.

The men, ages 24 and 20, were shot in the upper thigh area, Monessen police Chief John Mandarino said.

They were transported to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with nonlife-threatening injuries. Mandarino said he is not releasing the victims’ names at this time.

Mandarino said a car stopped in the street near the home at 671 McMahon Ave. just after 10 p.m., and a suspect dressed in black and wearing a hooded sweatshirt got out and went inside the home. The car drove off, not to return.

Several minutes later, the suspect ran from the home in the direction of Motheral Avenue. Police believe the suspect was in the residence long enough to rob the victims.

Police said they were not receiving much cooperation from the victims, but that they plan to interview them after they are released from the hospital.
