Mon Valley firefighters rang in the new year battling a Fallowfield Township house fire.

According to Charleroi fire Chief Bob Whiten, fire in a chimney at 11 Cullen Drive spread into the house due to embers falling into a crack in the fireplace flooring around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

“The people had a smoke detector and got out right away,” Whiten said.

There were no injuries.

Whiten said it took firefighters just a few minutes to battle the blaze, resulting in minimal damage to the home.

Fallowfield, Lock 4 and Stockdale fire departments also responded.
