Rostraver man gets prison for fatal crash blamed on diabetes
GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A Rostraver Township man could spend up to 14 years in prison for killing two people in a crash a defense attorney blamed on diabetes and a reaction to medication.
Defense attorney Patrick Thomassey told a Westmoreland County judge in Monday that 41-year-old Gary King was a “good man.”
But Judge Christopher Feliciani said Monday that King could have pulled over if he didn’t feel well.
Instead, King kept driving at least 88 mph on Interstate 70 before he crossed into the oncoming lane into a car driven by 64-year-old Frank Armstrong, of New Castle.
Armstrong died in the crash and his rear-seat passenger, 91-year-old Freda Rorke, of Belle Vernon, died in a hospital after the August 2012 crash.
The judge imposed a sentence of 18 months to 14 years in prison.
