Man sought for assault is apprehended
McDonald police on Wednesday arrested a man wanted on charges stemming from an altercation in a Burgettstown parking lot in August.
Gregg Eugene Abbott, 39, of 46 Francis Road, Burgettstown, was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger on charges of simple assault, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, harassment, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct following an Aug. 9 incident at 1443 Main St. in which Abbott brandished a knife at Deno Ely, 36, who accused him of stealing tools, police said.
Ely told police the two knew each other since they were children and had fights in the past, according to court documents. Abbott reportedly threatened to “cut (Ely) up,” but ultimately laid down his knife and assaulted Ely, who was found with several cuts and scrapes as well as a bloody mouth, police said. Abbott then fled the area.
A warrant had been issued for his arrest, but when police went to his home Tuesday, he was not there. McDonald police and Washington County sheriff’s deputies along with Cecil Township police K-9 units set up a roadblock along Route 18 anticipating his return. Abbott was apprehended without incident, McDonald police said.
He was placed in Washington County Jail on $20,000 bond.
