State Rep. Peter J. Daley, D-California, announced today that he will not seek re-election to another term in the state Legislature this year. Daley, 65, has served 33 years in the state House representing the 49th District and is the senior legislator from Washington County.

“It has been my great honor and privilege to represent the outstanding people of the Mon Valley and Fayette County for the last three and a half decades,” said Daley, the California native who has served the district since 1983. “It means so much to me that I have been able to work to benefit countless lives and bring about a multitude of improvements.”

He won election to the House in 1982 after serving 10 years as mayor of California Borough. His district includes much of the Mon Valley.

Two Republican candidates have already announced they intend to seek the 49th District seat in this year’s election.
