Police Beat Jan. 9
Woman injured: A Canonsburg woman was injured when a vehicle struck her about 9 a.m. Thursday in the Shop ‘n Save parking lot on West Pike Street. Police said Joan Gainer, 84, of Canonsburg, sustained a head injury and was taken to Allegheny General Hospital. The driver, Emily Podrasky, 35, of Southview, told police she did not see the woman as she was backing out of a parking spot.
Interstate crash: All drivers escaped injury in a three-vehicle crash about 7:50 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 79. State police said a vehicle driven by Darlene Kolodziej, 56, of Pierpoint, Ohio, struck the back of a vehicle driven by Raymond Bell Jr., 61, of Washington. Police said Bell’s vehicle then struck a vehicle driven by Tara Knutson-Garrett, 43, of Morgantown, W.Va. Police said Kolodziej was charged with following too closely.
Burglary charge: William Robert Phillips IV, 31, of 525 Washington Ave., Charleroi, was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence after he allegedly entered a home at 724 Fallowfield Ave. on Wednesday and took a television. Police said they identified Phillips through surveillance video, went to his home and arrested him later Wednesday. Phillips was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger and jailed on $20,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. Jan. 21 before District Judge Larry Hopkins.
Drug arrest: William Robert Ryan Jr., 36, of 101 Fourth St., Donora, was arrested Thursday on a warrant in connection with a December 2013 incident in which police said they found 14 stamp bags of suspected heroin and a prescription drug after they stopped his car on Second Street. Ryan is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked. He was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger and was jailed on $5,000 bond.
Trespass arrest: Kenneth E. Hayman Jr., 35, of 1029 Locust St., Houston, was arrested Friday by Houston police on charges of criminal trespass, receiving stolen property and driving under suspension after he allegedly forced his way into the back of a home on Johnston Street on Wednesday. He allegedly was seen on surveillance leaving the house with a 55-inch television. He was arraigned before District Judge David Mark and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
Woman injured: Barbara Mach, 78, of Weirich Avenue, Canton Township, was injured Dec. 17 when North Franklin police said her vehicle and one driven by Barbara Proctor, 73, of Sposato Road, Amity, collided at the intersection of West Chestnut Street and North Run Road. Mach was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment.
Theft charge: Michael Florian, 36, of 500 Sylvan Drive, North Franklin, was charged with theft Thursday. He is accused of stealing a total of $1,005 on two different occasions while working at Sears, Washington Crown Center, in late December. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Man jailed: Thomas A. Clipp, 32, whose last known address is on Courtney Hill Road in Union Township, is charged by state police with resisting arrest and unauthorized use of an automobile and by Rostraver police with theft and receiving stolen property, court records show. State police accuse Clipp of fleeing on foot from a traffic stop about 10 a.m. Dec. 28 on Zundel Road in Pricedale. Township police accuse Clipp of attempting to steal a wallet from a man in Walmart, 100 Sara Way, about 1 p.m. Dec. 18. He is in Westmoreland County jail on $10,000 bond set Friday by District Judge Joseph Dalfonso.
Retail theft: Latoya Marie Smith, 29, of 1673 Streator Ave., was arrested Thursday by South Strabane police and charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after she allegedly stole two sets of sheets valued at $139 from Walmart, Trinity Point. Smith was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger and was jailed on $5,000 bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 21 before District Judge Jay Weller.
Assault arrest: Joshua Kaelin Glenn, 24, of 490 Jefferson Ave., was arraigned Friday before District Judge Robert Redlinger on charges of simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness following an early morning altercation involving a knife at his residence, Washington police said. The second of two scuffles resulted in a man receiving a cut to his hand, police said. Glenn was placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Drug charges: Carlos Delone Evans, 36, of 375 Locust Ave., was arraigned Friday on a charge of delivering illegal drugs as detectives with the Washington County Drug Task Force and a confidential informant set up a buy of an undisclosed amount of heroin between Dec. 10 and Jan. 7, according to court documents. Evans was placed in Washington County jail on $15,000 bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Redlinger Jan. 20.
Window broken: James Lyle of West Virginia told police Thursday the back window of his vehicle was shattered while it was parked on West Chestnut Street.
