A 47-year-old Washington man was killed Saturday night when his motorcycle collided with a car on Route 18 (Smith Township Road) in Smith Township.

The motorcycle was heading north and the car was southbound, said Smith police Chief Bernie LaRue. The victim was pinned under the car after the crash, police said.

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said the operator of the motorcycle lost control and crossed into the southbound lanes. The victim who was not wearing a helmet was pronounced dead at the scene.

Warco said his identity will be released when next-of-kin are notified. The cause and manner of death are pending the autopsy.

The road was closed while police investigated the crash.

The crash happened about 6:20 p.m. in the 100 block of Route 18 in the Bavington section of the township.

Assisting were McDonald and state police along with Slovan firefighters and crews from Ambulance and Chair Service.

This is the second fatal crash in Washington County this week.
