BEAVER (AP) — Authorities say a shackled prisoner tried to escape from a western Pennsylvania medical center but was back in custody an hour later.

The Beaver County sheriff’s office says 24-year-old Chad Wimer of Portersville was taken to Heritage Valley Beaver medical center Friday night after complaining of chest pains.

Officials said Wimer became nauseous while in the treatment area and was taken to a bathroom while still fully shackled.

The sheriff’s office said Wimer managed to lock the door and climb into a ceiling, but was contained to a small area and was found about 35 feet away. An official said he surrendered when officers brought in K-9 units.

Authorities said additional charges are pending; the reason for Wimer’s imprisonment wasn’t immediately released.
