A West Alexander man is headed to Washington County Court after he waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday on charges including corruption of minors for allegedly providing cigarettes to young girls in Claysville in November.

Jarod Robert Weaver, 20, of 913 Beham Ridge Road, is accused of allowing several girls to drive his car.

Donegal Township police were called Nov. 14 to the intersection of Main and Wayne streets in Claysville for an unknown problem. When the officer arrived, Weaver reportedly told him a female had stolen his 2004 Chevrolet and he had called state police.

Township police learned it was a 12-year-old girl who had the vehicle. The girl’s father came to the scene. Police talked to the girl with the father’s permission, and she reportedly told the officer that Weaver allowed her to drive his vehicle. Another 12-year-old girl also told police he allowed her and other girls to drive his car and bought them cigarettes.

In addition to the corruption charges, Weaver waived a hearing on charges of false reports to police, furnishing tobacco to a minor and allowing an unlicensed person to drive his vehicle.

District Judge Ethan Ward set Weaver’s bond at $25,000 following the hearing, and he was placed in Washington County jail.

Weaver is scheduled for formal arraignment March 29.
