McMURRAY – Peters Township Farmers Market got approval from the township council this week to again hold the weekly event at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Venetia this year.

“You’ve done a great job,” said Councilman James Berquist. “You’re an asset to Peters Township.”

The market, which will be held for the third straight year, is set for Wednesdays from May 18 to Nov. 23, said Seashal Belldina, one of the market’s founding members. Hours of operation will be 3 to 7 p.m.

Like last year, the market will feature produce and goods from local farmers and artisans. There will also be food trucks offering prepared foods and acoustic music.

Belldina said the market will be similar in size to the one last year. All of the 30 or so vendors who participated in the weekly event have been happy with their sales. Many are expected to return this year as well.

Belldina did say, however, more volunteers are needed to help set up and take down the market.

Organizers also are interested in finding more musical entertainment, as well as chefs who would be willing to give cooking demonstrations.

“As a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization, we are hoping to get more volunteers to set up and run the market this year,” she said. “They can contact us through Facebook, or on our website, www.peterstownshipfarmersmarket.org.”

In other business, council recognized Detective Sgt. Mike Carso of the Peters Township police, who recently retired after 38 years of service with the township. Carson received a plaque of commendation from Patrick McGlennon, supervisory senior resident agent of the FBI.
