Trinity senior named O-R essay winner
A Trinity High School senior captured first place in the Observer-Reporter’s “It Can Wait” essay contest to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving.
Jonathan Florian of Washington won $100 for his essay and advances to the statewide “It Can Wait” competition, sponsored by the Pennsylvania News Media Association, the PNA Foundation and AT&T.
He is in the running for the $500 statewide prize that best answers the question, “Why is it important to take the It Can Wait pledge to keep your eyes on the road, not on your phone?”
“It Can Wait” is a national movement urging drivers to visit www.ItCanWait.com, where they can pledge to keep their eyes on the road, not on their phone, and share their pledges via Twitter (#ItCanWait) and Facebook.
The PNA will announce the winning statewide entry by Feb. 26.
Capturing second-place in the local contest and winning $50 was Alexandra Russo of Washington, who is also a senior at Trinity.
Third-place prize of $25 goes to Alexandria Johnson, also of Washington and a junior at Trinity.
Florian’s essay will be published in the Feb. 7 edition of the Observer-Reporter.
