A McDonald father and son were arrested Saturday night by borough police after the son allegedly assaulted his father, who allegedly struck his wife during a confrontation in the kitchen of their home.

Ronald J. Lyle Jr., 60, and Anthony Lyle, 20, both of 314 E. Lincoln St., were each charged by McDonald police with simple assault and harassment.

Shirl Lyle told police her husband started drinking wine at 9 a.m. The 60-year-old woman told police her husband was upset their grandchildren were not at the couple’s home to watch the McSummerfest parade.

The two reportedly got into an argument. Ronald Lyle reportedly hit his wife in the head several times with a metal tea kettle, knocking her to the kitchen floor. She received cuts to her head, police said. He also allegedly damaged several items in the couple’s home.

Shirl Lyle reportedly called her son, Anthony Lyle, and told him what happened. The son returned home and found his father on the front porch of the home, reportedly laughing about the assault, police said. The younger Lyle reportedly told his father “If you hurt my mother, we are going to have problems.”

Anthony Lyle went into the home and found his mother on the kitchen floor, crying, police said. She told him his father beat her up. The younger Lyle went back outside, allegedly grabbed his father in a headlock and took him to the ground.

Both were arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka. Anthony Lyle was released from Washington County jail Sunday morning after posting $2,500 bond. Ronald Lyle remained in jail Sunday afternoon on $5,000 bond. Both are scheduled for July 11 preliminary hearings before District Judge Traci McDonald.
