Police to charge Prosperity man after chase
A Prosperity man faces several charges after he reportedly ran from Canonsburg police Tuesday and injured himself when he jumped off a culvert on Chartiers Creek off Cavasina Drive.
Francis Falcon, 34, of 300 Weir Cole Road, was spotted about 5:15 p.m. driving a car with expired registration on Morganza Road near Weavertown Road. Officer Anthony Cancilla told Falcon to pull over at Four Coins Drive, but instead Falcon sped away. The driver, later identified as Falcon, jumped out and ran over an embankment. Cancilla yelled for him to stop, but he kept running. The officer called for backup.
The car started to drift toward the embankment but then stopped abruptly. Cancilla spotted a woman and child in the car. She gave the officer Falcon’s name and Cancilla determined the Prosperity man was wanted on an adult probation warrant.
North Strabane Township police arrived to assist Canonsburg officers. One of them spotted Falcon in the creek behind Taco Bell. Officer Gary Scherer told Cancilla Falcon jumped and was trying to run again. As police ran to the other side of the culvert, they could hear Falcon yelling in pain. Falcon put his hands up and told officers he thought he broke his back when he jumped.
Falcon was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment. He told police that he ran because he knew he had a warrant against him. Falcon was later flown to UPMC-Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.
Police from Cecil and Chartiers townships also assisted.
Falcon faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, escape, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of children, disorderly conduct and traffic violations. He is also wanted on a warrant obtained by the state police vice unit on drug charges stemming from an incident in October in North Franklin Township.
