In order to honor the military service of men and women from Brownsville, a nonprofit group is working to build a new memorial honor roll in the borough.

There used to be five military memorials in the mid-Mon Valley community, but all but only one remains. The Brownsville Area Military Honor Roll group is working to build and maintain the honor roll, which will be placed in the community park on Market Street.

“Anyone that served in our country deserves recognition,” said Dennis Falsetto, chairman of the BAMHR Committee.

In addition to the large stones that will feature names of lost or fallen service members from Brownsville, the BAMHR is selling bricks to honor anyone who served in the military in any capacity. Those in the service who were never deployed or who are not from the Brownsville area are eligible.

The bricks, which will be engraved with each service member’s name, rank, years of service and branch of service, are being sold to help the memorial reach its fundraising goal of about $28,000. Bricks are available in three sizes and cost $50, $75 or $100.

The group is asking members of the community to reach out to veterans across the United States in the hopes they will purchase a brick and support the memorial.

A spaghetti dinner is also being held Tuesday at Hugo’s Restaurant in Centerville from 4 to 8 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children. All proceeds go to building the honor roll.

To send a donation or purchase a brick, send the name, rank, years and branch information along with a check to BAMHR, P.O. Box 636, Brownsville PA 15417. To add an aditional logo or art, call Falsetto at 724-366-2113.
