NORTH WILDWOOD, N.J. – An American flag stolen in New Jersey from the family of a Philadelphia man who was killed during the Vietnam War was returned.
Philly.com reported a family associate said Tuesday the flag was located and an unidentified woman returned it to a neighbor.
The family wanted the flag back “no questions asked” and won’t pursue charges against the woman.
Police said the flag was hanging from a flagpole on the Fourth of July in North Wildwood when someone stole it.
The flag was given to the family of 19-year-old Navy Seaman Patrick Corcoran during his funeral.
Corcoran and 73 other sailors were killed in 1969 when the USS Frank E. Evans collided with an Australian aircraft carrier in the South China Sea.
Corcoran’s body was never found.
