WAYNESBURG – Greene County Commissioners approved a number of agenda items Thursday, including the awarding of contracts for the replacement of two county bridges.

The commissioners award a contract to replace bridge No. 78 in Richhill Township, which carries Walker Hill Road over Owens Run. Frank Gavlik and Sons Inc. submitted the low bid of $694,966. The bridge was closed for five years. The bridge replacement was delayed by the relocation of a natural gas line.

The commissioners also awarded a contract to replace bridge No. 55, which carries Shough Run Road over Bloody Run in Gilmore Township. The low bid of $591,062 was submitted by Thomas Construction.

The commissioners rejected the single bid the county received for replacing bridge No. 102 in Aleppo Township, which carries Strope Road over a small creek. The single bid was higher than the project estimate.

The commissioners also:

• Approved financial statements for the county’s 2015 audit. The audit shows a 624,841 deficit, but fails to include $641,000 in late taxes received that actually left the county with a slight surplus, according to chief clerk Jeff Marshall.

• Approved an agreement for a $250,000 state Department of Environmental Protection grant for the Greene Arc recycling program.

• Approved a $2,565 grant to the Carmichaels VFW to help it purchase a new freezer. The money is from a county grant program used to assist veterans’ organizations.

• Appointed Kayla Patton to the tourism board and Kay Jo Fischer to the Local Emergency Planning Commission.

At a salary board meeting, which followed the commissioners meeting, the board:

• Hired Theresa Perry and Danielle Smith for caseworker I positions in Children and Youth Services. They each will be paid $18.16 an hour.

• Hired Danyelle Neifert as a CYS county caseworker at $18.16 an hour; and Ashley Milcheck as a CYS caseworker supervisor at $19.20 an hour.

• Ended the temporary pay raise for Human Services Administrator Karen Bennett. Her salary was increased by $3,146 last July when she also was named acting drug and alcohol director to fill a vacancy. The position was filled last month. Bennett’s regular salary is $85,125.

• Accepted the resignation of Katherine Barhart as an associate manager in the industrial development authority.
