The Washington County Redevelopment Authority plans three informational workshops for those who are interested in applying for a grant from the Local Share Account of casino gambling revenue from The Meadows Racetrack and Casino.

The workshops will begin at 2 p.m. Aug. 15, in council chambers at the Donora Borough Building, 603 Meldon Ave.; 6 p.m. Aug. 16, in the public meeting room of the Courthouse Square office building, 100 W. Beau St., Washington; and 10 a.m. Aug. 19 at the Western Area Career and Technology Center, 688 Western Ave., Canonsburg.

The deadline for applying for the program is Oct. 5. Those who may be interested in attending the workshops include grant writers, local officials and those who are responsible for submitting applications. Local share applicants can be governments, nongovernmental organizations or government-related entities such as authorities.

Applications for the 2017 local share program are available at http://www.racw.net/washington-county-lsa/

After public hearings on the applications are convened at dates to be announced, panel members make recommendations to the Washington County commissioners, who forward a list of potential projects to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, which has the final say in approving projects.

Casino gambling opened at The Meadows Racetrack in June 2007.
