A Canonsburg woman told borough police early Thursday she was assaulted and robbed while at a playground in the East End.

Police were called just before 3 a.m. to the emergency room at Canonsburg Hospital, where 30-year-old Carly Cole was receiving stitches under her bottom lip, which was cut during the alleged assault.

Cole told police she suffers from night tremors, so she went for a walk to make herself tired. She was at the Franklin Avenue playground and was talking with a friend. She told her friend she was tired and going home.

Cole said she got up and started walking toward the entrance off Como Avenue when she was attacked from behind. She told police she was pushed to the ground, face first. Her attacker punched her in the face, knocking off her glasses. She said her purse and two bottles of prescription medication were knocked from her hands.

The bottles were stolen before her attackers fled. She told police she had no money or credit cards in her purse.

Cole called her friend and then walked to her boyfriend’s home. He took her to the hospital.

Cole told police without her glasses, she cannot see. She told police she did not know how many attackers were there, whether they were male or female or what they were wearing.

Cole believes they fled through the Como entrance to the playground.

Anyone who might have seen suspicious activity in the area is asked to call police at 724-745-8020, ext. 519.
