Police Beat July 28
PFA violation alleged: Michael Anthony Maloy, 43, of 433 Ross St., Chartiers, was arrested Tuesday afternoon by Chartiers police after he allegedly violated a protection-from-abuse order obtained by his mother, Donna Shriver. He is accused of entering the residence after he was excluded from it, police said. He was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller and released on his own recognizance.
Drug arrest: Lance Chacko, 33, of 131 Factory St., Monongahela, is charged by city police with possessing two bundles of heroin and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Eastgate Plaza parking lot, court records show. Chacko is in Westmoreland County jail on $25,000 bond set by District Judge Jason Buczak.
Passenger charged: Robert Campbell, 23, of 302 Market St. Apartment 1, Belle Vernon, is charged by city police with possessing a bag of crack as a passenger in a vehicle a patrolman approached about 8 p.m. June 10 because it was parked in an area known for drug deals at Fourth Street and Knox Avenue, court records show. District Judge Joseph Dalfonso issued the charge in a summons Monday.
Assault alleged: Pernell C. Brooks Jr., 47, of 479 Reed Ave., Monessen, is charged by city police with retaliation against a witness, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment, court records show. Brooks is accused of punching Allen Giles several times in the face about 9:30 p.m. July 15 at 844 Donner Ave. Police said Giles was assaulted for calling police to report Brooks’ wife in a separate incident early that day. District Judge Joseph Dalfonso issued a warrant Friday for Brooks’ arrest.
Theft arrest: Kurtis Richard Powell, 31, of 512 Castner Ave., Donora, was arrested Tuesday by Monongahela police on a charge of theft for allegedly stealing a wedding ring, diamond ring and earrings valued at almost $5,000 from the home of Jenny Sento, 814 Kennedy St. He allegedly sold the diamond ring and other items at a Belle Vernon pawn shop. He was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller and placed in Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.
Charged in stop: Mary Ann Wright, 30, of Marianna, was charged Wednesday by state police with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia and traffic violations stemming from a stop Sunday afternoon on Route 40 at Brady Road, North Bethlehem.
Gun found: North Franklin police said a 9 mm handgun was found Saturday in a restroom at 7-Eleven, 1380 W. Chestnut St. Police said the weapon is not registered.
Appliances stolen: Someone broke a padlock Monday on a home under construction in the 600 block of Drover Drive in Venetia and stole a refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, range, washer and dryer. Police said all of the appliances were new.
Theft report: Robert J. Thorpe, 47, of 524 McKean Ave., Charleroi, is charged by township police with theft and receiving stolen property over allegations he stole a wallet containing $225 from Joseph Pager when Pager placed it on a counter about 9:41 a.m. July 15 at Aldi Foods, 772 Rostraver Road, court records show. District Judge Charles Christner issued the charges via summons Tuesday.
Assault alleged: Brian V. Yates, 34, of 725 Rostraver St., Monessen, is charged by township police with simple assault and harassment over allegations he grabbed his stepfather, Vern Campbell, by the throat and pushed him into a faucet about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at 535 College Circle in Fellsburg, court records show. Yates is free on $25,000 unsecured bond set by District Judge Jason Buczak.
Theft charge: Robert Hatlapatka, 56, of 614 Queens Way, Port Royal Village, Belle Vernon, was charged Wednesday by Rostraver police with retail theft after he allegedly stole items July 21 from Giant Eagle. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Joseph Dalfonso.
Paraphernalia charge: Ryan Lawrence Jankowski, 23, of 808 Riverview Drive, White Oak, was charged Wednesday by Rostraver police with possession of paraphernalia and public drunkenness stemming from an incident Saturday at McDonald’s, 845 Rostraver Road. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Joseph Dalfonso.
Forgery, theft charges: Jordan Lee Yonkers, 28, of 915 Addison St., Webster, was charged Wednesday by Rostraver police with four counts of forgery and access device fraud and one count of theft for allegedly using a bank card at four PNC locations in Rostraver July 2. Charges were filed at the office of District Judge Joseph Dalfonso. Yonkers is in Westmoreland County jail on $10,000 bond set in a separate theft case.
Woman arraigned: Melissa A. Zelenka, 33, of 225 Laurie Lane, Amwell Township, was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Jay Weller on a felony charge of retail theft for allegedly stealing items from Walmart, Trinity Point, on June 17. She was released on her own recognizance.
Theft charge: Cory L. Michalewicz, 27, of 34 Griffith Ave., Canton Township, was charged Wednesday by South Strabane police with theft by deception after he allegedly returned stolen items valued at $155.03 to Walmart, Trinity Point, July 19. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Charged in theft: William M. Morris Jr., 33, of 17 Thayer St., East Washington, was charged Wednesday by South Strabane police with retail theft after he allegedly failed to scan items July 21 at the self-checkout at Walmart, Trinity Point. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Theft charges: Justin P. Piatt of 15 North Ave., Washington, was charged Wednesday by South Strabane police with retail theft by deception and retail theft. He is accused of stealing an air mover from Lowe’s, Strabane Square, on July 20 and returning the item for $210. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Man assaulted: Steve Loughman, 44, of Washington, was seriously injured when he was assaulted at North Franklin and West Walnut streets just before 4 p.m. Tuesday, Washington police said. A witness told police Loughman walked up to a silver Hyundai sport utility vehicle. A black man wearing a blue hat, blue shorts and black shirt got out of the vehicle. He hit Loughman several times in the head. The vehicle then fled on North Franklin to Hall Avenue. A vehicle matching the description was stopped a short time later, but the driver did not match the description of the attacker. Loughman was taken to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.
Wallet stolen: Tanisha Johnson of Washington told Washington police Tuesday her wallet containing her Access card was stolen. The last time she saw it was in her vehicle, which was parked on Broad Street.
Package stolen: Pam Venegar of Washington told Washington police Tuesday a package that was supposed to be delivered to her home on Victoria Street was instead delivered to a vacant house on Katherine Avenue. The package was then stolen.
Television stolen: Vanessa Gray of 51 Hart Ave. told Washington police Monday her 42-inch television was stolen from her home.
Gun, games stolen: Jean-Henri Yandel told Washington police Tuesday a .40-caliber pistol, Xbox player and controller, Xbox games, jewelry, drills and a mitre saw were stolen from 985 Addison St. He discovered the theft Friday.
