WAYNESBURG – The Waynesburg Borough parking lot at High and Morris streets has been changed from meter parking to two-hour free parking.

Meters were removed this week in the section of the parking lot that was reserved for meter parking, borough manager Mike Simms said.

Motorists parking in those spaces will now have two hours of free parking, the same two-hour parking restriction applicable on streets in the main business district, he said.

The new restrictions will be enforced by the borough meter agent.

Part of the parking lot has also been used for permit parking. The new two-hour spaces and the permit spaces will be clearly designated with signs, Simms said.

The borough decided to remove the meters because many of them had become inoperable, Simms said. The meters are old and the parts could not be found to repair them, he said.

Council has talked about possibly replacing the current meters in the borough with new meters or a newer parking system, but has made no decisions regarding the matter.
