City police searching for robbery suspects
Washington police are looking for two men who robbed the McDonald’s restaurant on Jefferson Avenue at West Wylie Avenue in Tylerdale at gunpoint about 4:30 a.m. Thursday, making off with an undetermined amount of cash.
Three employees were cleaning in the back of the restaurant when the one closest to the register heard someone enter, police said. Thinking it was a customer, she turned around and was confronted by a gunman who had the lower portion of his face covered and a hood from his sweatshirt pulled up. He asked if she was the manager and then forced her to the back of the business.
The manager was confronted by one of the robbers, forced at gunpoint into the office and ordered to open the safe. The manager told police one of the robbers held a black pistol at the back of his head. Once the manager opened the safe, the robber grabbed the cash.
The second robber held the other employees at gunpoint with a silver pistol outside the office. When the safe was opened, that gunman leaned inside the office and reportedly sprayed the manager in the face with pepper spray.
The robbers then fled on foot. Both are black. A witness told police one of the robbers wore sweatpants and a burgundy hooded sweatshirt. The other wore blue jeans and white shoes.
The two robbers were reportedly seen pacing in the area of Rite Aid, on the opposite corner of West Wylie and Jefferson, and Terry’s Lounge on West Wylie before the robbery.
