Charleroi Regional police reported no one was injured in a house fire at 616 Shady Ave. Thursday afternoon.

CHARLEROI – A fire believed to have been caused by an electrical malfunction in a bedroom heavily damaged a Charleroi house Thursday afternoon.

Charleroi fire Chief Bob Whiten said he asked the state fire marshal to investigate the cause of the blaze reported about 3:35 p.m. at 616 Shady Ave.

“We had it knocked down real quick,” Whiten said.

He said the fire damaged 1 ½ rooms in the 1-story frame house with aluminum siding.

While no one was injured, Whiten said, a few firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

Resident Nicole Romantino said she was across the street when the fire broke out.

“I walked in and under the bed caught fire,” Romantino said. “I tried to put it out.”

She said wires were under the bed in the house owned by John Tedrow. She said Tedrow has insurance on the house.

Whiten said the fire was under control in about 20 minutes.

Firefighters from the Fallowfield Township, Lock Four, Monessen No 1, Bentleyville and North Belle Vernon assisted Charleroi at the scene.
