Police: Man admits he killed roommate with hammer, gun
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Police say a Western Pennsylvania man told investigators he killed another man by hitting him in the head with a hammer during an argument and then shooting him.
A Pittsburgh landlord and neighbor found the body of 35-year-old Mark Lopata last week inside Lopata’s apartment.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office ruled that Lopata died from a gunshot wound to the head and blunt force trauma to the head.
A detective told investigators earlier this week that Robert Hunter confessed and was able to provide verifiable details about the killing. He was arraigned on Thursday on criminal homicide and other charges.
Investigators say Hunter had been living with Lopata.
Hunter has been jailed pending a preliminary hearing.
It wasn’t immediately known if Hunter has a lawyer.
