Rostraver Township commissioners learned Wednesday the township received one-year extension on an $180,000 Greenways and Trails Recreation Grant because improvements to John DiVirgilion Sports Complex are running behind schedule.

Under the guidelines of the original grant, work was to be completed by June 30. Township Supervisor Devin DeRienzo said the work was behind schedule because of the manufacturer of the pre-fabricated handicapped bathroom building being unable to meet its deadline, putting the township at risk of losing the grant.

The improvements being made include handicapped-accessible sidewalks, bathrooms and parking.

DeRienzo met with State Sen. Patrick Stefano, R-Bullskin Township, who helped to secure the extension.

In other news, supervisors approved a resolution declaring Cedar Hills Development Inc., in default of its $1,875 road bond in an excess hauling agreement on Ridge Road.

Supervisors approved the purchase of three automatic external defibrillators from Saving Grace Medical in the amount of $5,420, to be paid from the Act 13 gas impact fee monies in the capital reserve fund. The new AEDs will be replacing the present ones that are carried in township police vehicles.

Supervisors authorized the state Department of Transportation to complete the inspection and analysis of two township bridges on Finley and Pricedale roads.
