Police probing Cumberland Twp. liquor store burglary
CARMICHAELS – Cumberland Township police are investigating a break-in shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday at the state liquor store in Brodak’s Commons.
Township police Chief Craig Miller said a woman driving along Route 88 saw a light on inside the store and the front door ajar at the store at 554 S. Eighty-Eight Road.
She stopped and called police.
The burglar, apparently “spooked” when he saw the woman stop, then fled driving north on Route 88 in what is thought to be a red vehicle, Miller said.
The burglar smashed the glass on the front door to gain entrance to the store. A cash register, which contained no money, was also damaged, he said.
“We’re still trying to get an inventory of what is missing,” Miller said.
Elizabeth Brassell, director of communications for the state Liquor Control Board, said employees were conducting an inventory at the store Tuesday. Repairs were made to the door and the store re-opened at 11 a.m.
Police also have video from a surveillance camera that is being reviewed, Miller said. The state police forensic unit was called to assist in processing the crime scene, Miller said.
Employees who were at the store repairing the front door Tuesday morning declined to comment.
