Greene County commissioners proclaimed June 18 “High Point Raceway Day” in honor of the 40th running of the motocross race at the track in Dunkard Township near Mt. Morris.

Tim Cotter of MX Sports Pro Racing, Morgantown, W.Va., invited the commissioners and everyone at the commissioners’ meeting Thursday to attend the annual High Point AMA Pro National race, which will be featured live this year on NBC at 3 p.m. June 18.

The national television exposure, Cotter said, will give the motocross series and racetrack a chance “to show what Mt. Morris and High Point has to offer,” he said.

The first race at the track was held in 1977. It now is part of the national Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series that races at 12 tracks across the country.

Greene County Commissioner Blair Zimmerman said he attended the annual race in his youth.

“If you like motor sports, this is one of the most exciting things you’ll ever see,” he said.
