Flashlight Drags to be held Sunday
WAYNESBURG – The first Flashlight Drags of the season will be Sunday at Greene County Airport.
Gates will open at noon, with races scheduled to run from 2 to 6 p.m. Admission is $6 to watch and $30 to race.
Produced by Altered Gas Performance Events LLC, Flashlight Drags consists of a 1/8-mile race along the airport runway. The name of the event refers to the early days of street drag racing, when a flashlight was used to signal the start.
Street-legal cars and trucks are eligible to race. Drivers must have appropriate paperwork, including a valid driver’s license, current state registration and proof of insurance. Passengers are not allowed.
Racers must sign a waiver and attend a mandatory drivers’ meeting prior to the start of the event.
Drivers of convertibles must have the top up or wear a helmet. Mufflers and state Department of Transportation-approved tires are required. There will be no refunds.
The format is “heads-up,” meaning that both vehicles leave the starting line at the same time.
The races were originally to begin May 22; however, that event was cancelled because of the weather and was rescheduled for July 31. Races will also be held Aug. 21, Sept. 18 and Oct. 9.
