A flash flood warning was issued for all of Southwestern Pennsylvania until Friday morning as strong storms move through the area. Storms caused downed trees and wires and flooded streets in some parts of Washington County.

A West Penn Power representative said “about 300 people” were reportedly without power in Washington County. The representative said power was expected to be restored by 11 p.m. tonight.

Peters Township was one of the most affected areas. Old Oak Road between Route 19 and Red Oak Drive is closed because of a downed utility pole, and flooding on Route 19 congested rush-hour traffic more than usual. Northbound traffic on Route 19 in Peters Township is being detoured through KMart shopping center and is backed up for miles.

The produce department in Giant Eagle at Strabane Square, South Strabane Township, is closed because of flooded conditions.

More thunderstorms are expected and more than 3 inches of rain could fall in the area tonight.
