MONESSEN – A Monessen man was charged with attempted homicide over allegations he slashed his brother-in-law in the face with a samurai sword early Thursday.

District Judge Joseph Dalfonso sent Todd Allen Clark, 51, of 625 McMahon Ave., to Westmoreland County jail on $50,000 bond after Clark was released from Monongahela Valley Hospital, where he was treated for injuries he suffered when his brother-in-law punched him the face as many as three times after the sword attack, Monessen police stated in court records.

Clark also was accused that morning of using a cane to strike his sister, Amelia Garey, after she refused to allow him to smoke marijuana in the house she shared with him, police stated in the affidavit supporting the criminal charges in the case.

Police said Bill Garey was injured with the sword after he stepped in to stop Clark from hurting his wife with the cane.

Bill Garey suffered a wound to the nose and was transported to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh following the 12:20 a.m. incident, police said.

Amelia Garey’s daughter told police Clark grabbed the sword from behind his bed and then dragged it across Bill Garey’s face after Bill Garey punched Clark in the face.

In addition to attempted homicide, Clark was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment and possessing an offensive weapon.
