Peters Township gets ready for Community Day
Balloon art, airbrush tattoos, accordions, live music, crafts, food and fireworks.
What more can you ask you ask for at the 38th annual Peters Township Community Day, to be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at Peterswood Park?
How about a chance to watch a chainsaw artist carve an eagle from a five-foot log?
Those are just some of the festivities and events planned for the day, said Michele Harmel, the township’s parks and recreation director.
“We should have around 140 to 150 vendors this year,” Harmel said.
New this year is chainsaw wood carving. Artist Joe King, who is from the Seven Springs area, will be carving an eagle sculpture from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A raffle will be held for the sculpture once it is complete, Harmel said.
Airbrush tattoo artist Skip Colbert will be drawing tattoos from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Magician “The Fabulous Flanzinee” will perform from noon until 2 p.m. And ABC Balloon Twisting will be making balloon animals and funny shapes from 2 to 4 p.m.
There will also be musical entertainment. Tom Lamb is slated to perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and he will be followed Clinton Clegg, who is scheduled to perform from 1:30 to 3:30.
Harmel said children will have a chance to meet superheroes Captain America and Spider-Man, who will be visiting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also, Pat Septak will be playing the accordion from 1 to 3.
Community Day raffle tickets will be sold at Shelter 1 all day at a cost of 50 cents each. Winners will be picked every five minutes.
The festivities conclude with a 9:30 p.m. fireworks show. Harmel said no vehicles will be permitted to drive into Peterswood Park after 9:25.
