WAYNESBURG – Representatives of Dry Tavern Sewer Authority approached Greene County commissioners Thursday seeking financial assistance for a $3.5 million sewer expansion project that will provide service to about 110 new customers.

Jefferson Township Supervisor Mickey Dikun, speaking on behalf of the authority, asked the commissioners if the county could assist the authority with money to help cover the local share of the project. The authority has been working on the project, which will extend sewage to Ferncliff Road and the Szoyka Plan, for a number of years, Dikun said.

“This will open a lot of property down there for development,” he said.

The authority earlier received a grant and loan for the project from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority, or PENNVEST, and is now seeking help to cover the $162,000 it must pay for the local share, Dikun said.

Work on the expansion project is ready to begin, Dikun said. He noted pipe for the project was to be delivered this week.

Commissioner Blair Zimmerman said the commissioners would like to sit down with members of the authority to discuss the project.

“We’ll definitely take this under consideration,” he said.

In other business, the commissioners agreed to sell the contents of an abandoned hangar at Greene County Airport to Separation Design Group for $2,200. The company submitted the only bid. Rent had not been paid on the hangar for numerous years and the county has been unable to contact the renter, county chief clerk Jeff Marshall said. The county was required to obtain court approval to take possession of the contents of the hangar, which includes spare parts and two old airplanes that are not operable, Marshall said.

They also agreed to provide $2,500 to the Brave Water and Sewer Authority to make emergency repairs on a water tank. Wayne Township is contributing the same amount to cover the repairs, estimated at $5,000.

The commissioners also agreed to allow Rolling Thunder Inc. to place a memorial chair in Greene County Courthouse in honor of soldiers who are prisoners of war or missing in action.

During a salary board meeting that followed the commissioners meeting, the board approved the annual cost-of-living adjustment for non-union employees. The increase is 2.5 percent for employees with one year or more of employment and 1.25 percent for employees with less than one year of employment. The adjustment is made each year and is based on the federal costs of living index, Marshall said.

The board hired Kira Sisk as full-time drug and alcohol director at a salary of $42,733. The position has been vacant for about a year, though the work has been handled by an acting director.

April Brumage was hired as a full-time environmental program specialist in the conservation district at $15.23 an hour.

Retirements were accepted for Greene County Prison Warden Harry Gillispie and for Deshirl Yesenosky, a caseworker in human services. Resignations were accept from CYS caseworker Sarah Braddock was casual 911 operator Gerald Jenko.
