County holds ‘re-entry’ job fair
WAYNESBURG – More than 200 people participated in a job fair at the fairgrounds Friday, although some of them were ordered by the Greene County Court to attend as part of a re-entry process following criminal convictions.
It was the county’s first “re-entry” conference and job fair aimed at people with criminal records who need help finding employment.
President Judge Farley Toothman held court in a neighboring building at the fairgrounds and ordered unemployed people with court appointments to attend the job fair after court. The fair was open to anybody, but focused mainly on people with criminal records who are looking for jobs.
Several speakers, including, Toothman and Greene County Sheriff Brian Tennant, talked to the crowd about how to get back on their feet after getting out of jail or the court system.
About 40 employers, most from Greene County, met with potential employees to discuss career options, such as nursing and caregiving to truck driving, civil engineering, banking, construction and coal mining.
