Man injured in Route 21 crash upgraded to serious condition

The Nemacolin man injured in a four-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on Route 21 in Franklin Township was upgraded Thursday to serious condition at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., a hospital spokeswoman said.

Adam D. Smith, 34, suffered major injuries in the crash and was flown by medical helicopter to the Ruby Memorial hospital for treatment.

The crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday when Smith crossed the centerline and struck a dump truck, state police said. The drivers of the other three vehicles were not seriously injured.
