Rostraver recreation complex to get upgrades
The DiVirgilio Recreation Complex in Rostraver Township will soon be entirely handicapped accessible.
The township board of commissioners on Wednesday awarded the contract to A. Folino Construction of Oakmont for $239,299, the lowest bid for the project.
Exterior and interior improvements will be made. Sidewalks will be made handicapped accessible, there will be handicapped parking and a handicapped bathroom will be installed, as well as ramps to the all of the complex’s sport fields. The project is being funded by a grant from the Greenway, Trail and Recreation Program. The work is expected to begin this week and finish before June.
In other business, spotty cellphone service may soon be a thing of the past in Rostraver. The board of commissioners approved R2C Development Group, a public utility company, to install four Extenet wireless communication boosters that will improve Internet signals.
Two of the boosters will be installed on existing utility poles, and two boosters will be installed on two new utility poles. The boosters will have an antenna and a small apparatus on each pole.
They will be installed at 835 and 816 Fin Road, 235 Sylvan Road and 4309 Route 51. Ronald Gainar, attorney for Extenet, said that the boosters will enhance phone data coverage within 300 to 400 feet of them. The boosters are a new technology and less intrusive than a cell tower, said Gainar. Installation is expected to begin in June or July.
Commissioners also voted advertise amendment to the ordinance to add chickens as an accessory use in a residential area.
The commissioners terminated the professional agreement relationship with HRG as the municipal traffic engineer.
