Waynesburg to stage ‘The Little Mermaid’
WAYNESBURG – Waynesburg University students will bring the ocean to the stage next week for the school’s spring musical, “The Little Mermaid.”
The show, based on the Disney film, will be held at 7:30 p.m. March 30 through April 2 in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center.
There also will be a matinee performance at 2:30 p.m. April 2.
EdwardPowers, the university’s theater professor and director of the show, said it will be a bigger production than the university typically puts on.
“The costumes are very elaborate,” he said. “Many of our plays have been smaller-scale.”
He said the cast consists of 26 students and three young girls, Bryn Lahew, Loren Schroyer and Dani Stockdale, from Waynesburg, who will be playing sea guppies.
“There’s a wide variety of talent,” he said. “We started working on it in January.”
Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased at www.waynesburg.ticketleap.com/mermaid or by calling 724-852-3226.
In conjunction with the show, the university will host its annual Alumni and Friends Dinner Theatre April 2. Alumni are invited for a 5:30 p.m. dinner in Benedum Dining Hall before the show that evening. Tickets for the dinner, which include the show, are $35 and $12.50 for children.
The proceeds will benefit the university’s theatre program.
