Washington convenience store robbed
A man wearing a hooded sweatshirt backward with the hood covering his face held up a Washington convenience store early Tuesday.
Washington police said the clerk was sitting on a stool behind the counter at Valero, 98 Murtland Ave., when the robber walked in about 4:05 a.m. with the hood covering his face and two small holes cut out so that he could see.
The robber walked behind the counter and told the clerk “Don’t move.” He then placed something in the clerk’s back. The clerk told police that he was unsure if the man actually had a gun.
The robber then forced the clerk to move toward the cash register. The clerk told police that he asked the man to remove the hood, but got no response. The robber ordered the clerk to open the register and removed an unspecified amount of cash while holding on to the employee.
The man then left the store, turning left in the direction of North Avenue. As the suspect walked through the parking lot, he is seen on surveillance video pulling down the hood of his shirt. The clerk told police that the robber was either bald or had close-shaven hair. The clerk also told police that he did not recognize the suspect as one of the regular customers at the store.
Police reviewed surveillance footage and saw that that the shirt may have been dark blue with a West Virginia University logo on what should have been the front. He also wore dark pants and boots as well as gloves. The robber was in the store for only about a minute with surveillance showing him leaving at 4:06 a.m. It also appeared that he entered the store after coming from North.
Police searched but were not able to locate the culprit.
