An application for a dog license in Pennsylvania

Dog wardens will canvass Greene and neighboring counties this month to ensure all dog owners have licenses and rabies vaccinations for their dogs.

Checks in Greene County will be held the week of May 16.

The state Department of Agriculture reminds anyone who owns a dog 3 months or older that the animal must be licensed each year.

The fee is $6.50 for each spayed or neutered dog, and $8.50 for other dogs.

Older adults and persons with disabilities may purchase a license for $4.50 for spayed or neutered dogs, and $6.50 for others.

Also, all dogs and nonferal cats 3 months or older must be vaccinated against rabies. Booster vaccinations must be administered periodically to maintain lifelong immunity.

Violators can be cited with a maximum fine of $300 per instance, plus court costs.

Licenses may be purchased through the county treasurer or from a registered issuing agent.
