Two people were flown by medical helicopter with undisclosed injuries following a two-vehicle accident on eastbound I-70 near the Jefferson Avenue exit, state police said.

The accident was reported around 2:40 p.m. Monday as Oshai Jamal Wright, 18, of Washington, was driving a Saturn sedan onto I-70 from the ramp when his vehicle started billowing smoke from the engine. David Samuel Maleski, 55, of Washington, was driving a West Penn Power company Ford-550 truck and didn’t see Wright’s vehicle because of the smoke cloud and rear-ended him, injuring both Maleski and his passenger, Maresa Montice Gibbons, 20, of Youngstown, Ohio. Maleski was not treated for injuries. At least one patient was flown to Allegheny General Hospital. It was not clear if both patients were taken to the same hospital. Traffic backup was cleared by 4 p.m.
