East Washington shooting still under investigation
State police continue to investigate the shooting of a Washington man found early Saturday inside a vehicle parked on an East Washington street.
Deshawn Chaz Barfield, 22, was found after he called the 911 center about 12:05 a.m. to report he had been shot in the chest and was inside a car on the street at 20 S. Wade Ave.
“We are still investigating,” said Trooper Jared Johnson. “We are getting conflicting stories. Hopefully, we’ll be able to get some answers.”
Barfield remains at UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh. Johnson said a trooper from the Pittsburgh station talked with Barfield briefly, but he could not answer many questions because of a breathing tube. Johnson hopes to be able to talk with Barfield later this week or next week.
“The car was parked in front of 20 S. Wade, but at this point we are not even sure if that is the crime scene,” Johnson said.
East Washington police Chief David Bradley said Saturday they did not receive any reports of gunshots in the area where the car was found. He said it also was not certain how long Barfield had been in the car before police were notified. Bradley said it also is likely Barfield and whoever fired the shot were in the car together.
East Washington police turned the investigation over to state police Saturday. Anyone with information about the incident can call state police at 724-223-5200.
