Canonsburg police are looking for a burglar who broke into a West Pike Street motorcycle shop early Wednesday and stole two high-end dirt bikes and, with the help of two other men, loaded them into a U-Haul box truck.

Police were called about 3:25 a.m. to Barnes Brothers Motorcycle, 589 W. Pike, after a burglar alarm was tripped. When police arrived, they found the right window in the garage door was broken. A 4-foot piece of wood was leaning against the door, and the front door to the business was partially open.

Surveillance footage shows a man taking the two KTM dirt bikes to the door. Two other men in the truck came from behind the shop and pulled into the lot of an adjacent business. The three then loaded the dirt bikes and left the lot.

The thief who stole the bikes is black, wore a dark, hooded jacket, jeans and white tennis shoes.

Detective Michael Ledger said the thief went directly to the two dirt bikes, valued at $4,000 each.

These dirt bikes are racing bikes for children, said Brad Barnes, who owns the shop with his two sons.

“He went right to them,” Barnes said of the thief. “He can be seen on surveillance a few hours earlier, casing the store. He peers through the showroom window.”

The detective is trying to determine if this burglary had anything to do with a recent one in Morgantown, W.Va., in which a U-Haul was used to steal two dirt bikes.

Barnes said that burglary happened April 12 at Morgantown Motor Sports.

“Both happened basically the same way,” Barnes said. “They are in the store for a few minutes and then they are gone. They will keep doing it until they are caught.”

The box truck is also unique in that it has a Chevrolet front end, unlike most U-Haul vehicles that have Ford front ends, Barnes added.

Anyone with information on the burglary or suspect is asked to call Ledger at 724-745-8020, ext. 523.
