WAYNESBURG – A co-director of Waynesburg University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program, along with a recent graduate of the program, recently had their research work accepted to be published.

Dr. Kimberly Whiteman, co-director of the DNP Program at Waynesburg University, had two chapters published in the second edition of Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy, a handbook for critically ill dialysis patients, which was released earlier this year.

Whiteman’s chapters, “Educational Resources” and “Patient Care Quality and Teamwork,” share information about educating nurses and achieving quality results in a continuous renal replacement therapy program. The publication is based upon clinical work Whiteman completed while coordinating a UPMC CRRT program.

Whiteman co-authored the “Educational Resources” chapter with Dr. Ian Baldwin, program coordinator and clinical educator for post registration intensive care nursing at Austin Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. Baldwin also serves as an adjunct faculty member at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University.

Whiteman co-authored the “Patient Care Quality and Teamwork” chapter with Fred Tasota, former pulmonary and critical care clinical nurse specialist at UPMC- Presbyterian.

Additionally, a research paper written by Dr. Claire Wilson, a recent graduate of the DNP Program, will be published in an upcoming edition of the Journal of Nursing Care Quality.

Wilson’s paper, “Improving the Patient’s Experience with a Multi-Modal Quiet at Night Initiative,” addresses the concern for a patient’s rest and sleep during their hospitalization. According to Wilson, this is an area that is often overlooked in today’s fast paced hospital atmosphere.

Wilson is the director of nursing and patient services at Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio. She was recently accepted to serve as an adjunct faculty member at Malone University in Canton, Ohio.
