WAYNESBURG – Greene County Commissioners awarded a contract Thursday to replace a county bridge over a small stream in Graysville and also approved the contract for construction of the new intersection on Route 21 at Greene County Airport.

The county awarded the contract to replace bridge No. 98 on Church Lane in Graysville to J5 Construction of Houston, which submitted a low bid of $458,999. The award was contingent upon solicitor and controller review.

The bridge provides access to the fire hall, a church, a coin laundry and several houses. The project is expected to be completed this summer and will be paid for with Act 13 money, county Chief Clerk Jeffrey Marshall said.

The commissioners also awarded a contract to A. Folino Construction Inc. for $768,719 for construction of the new intersection on Route 21 at Greene County Airport.

The intersection will realign the airport entrance road with Murtha Drive and make a new four-way intersection at Murtha Drive and Route 21. It is part of a county project to open up airport property to commercial development. Work is expected to begin in about a month.

The commissioners also approved a lease agreement with Pennsylvania CareerLink for space in the Fort Jackson Building that includes a 2.5 percent increase in rent. CareerLink will pay the county about $87,000 a year for the space.

The commissioners appointed Sam Steinmiller Jr. to replace Francis Minor on Greene County Planning Commission. Minor resigned after serving 20 years on the commission.

Marshall was appointed to the Work Force Investment board to replace Robbie Matesic, director of the county’s Department of Economic Development.

The commissioners also approved a $3,000 grant to Waynesburg American Legion to build a pavilion, install a privacy fence and make other property improvements at the post home. In addition, they approved a $3,000 recreation grant to Meadowlark Park for construction of a safety fence and for field improvements.
