Burgettstown man dies in crash

Failure to negoiate a curve initiated a motorcycle accident that killed a Burgettstown man Friday night on Route 22 in Hanover Township.

According to a report from the state police in Pittsburgh, a motorcycle was traveling eastbound on the off-ramp from Route 22 to state Route 18 and failed to handle a curve. The motorcycle left the roadway and struck a right guardrail. The operator of the motorcycle also struck the guardrail and came off the vehicle.

Ronald W. Woods, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:10 p.m., according to a news release from Washington County Coroner Tim Warco.

Investigator Ryan Cohen determined Woods came to rest on the berm of the roadway and the motorcycle also came to rest on the berm. The motorcycle was damaged but was removed from the scene by a family member of Woods.

Smith and Hanover township police departments assisted at the scene.
