Buffalo Township pursuit results in fugitive’s arrest
A McKees Rocks man was arrested Monday following a vehicle chase in Buffalo Township.
Bobby Frank Kirkland, 24, of 840 Island Ave., who was wanted on robbery charges and parole violations, was spotted driving on state Route 221 near Interstate 70. When state police attempted a traffic stop, Kirkland fled and a pursuit ensued.
During the pursuit, police said Kirkland tossed a handgun from his vehicle, as he fled south on 221 and crashed on Highland Ridge Road. After fleeing on foot, Kirkland was apprehended by police, who found about nine bricks of heroin and more than $1,000 in Kirkland’s vehicle.
Police also recovered the discarded handgun, a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol, which has been reported stolen to Monongahela police.
Kirkland was placed in Washington County jail on a probation violation. He will face charges on firearms violations, receiving stolen property, drug charges and fleeing and eluding police. Kirkland also will be arraigned on Charleroi robbery charges.
Kirkland’s arrest was the result of a weeklong, joint investigation conducted by Washington County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force, state police Troop B, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Canonsburg police and Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
