Waynesburg market delayed
The Waynesburg Farmers Market, originally scheduled to begin today, has been pushed back a week.
Rainy weather over the past two weeks has made it difficult for local farmers to grow produce, event organizer Larry Marshall said, so the vendors agreed during a meeting Friday to push the start of the market to next week.
“I think people know early on that vendors might not have (the produce) yet,” Marshall said. “We want the homegrown stuff and produce that’s grown locally.
“To make the market what we want it to be, (the vendors) asked for it to be pushed back,” he said.
The weekly market is now scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Church Street next to the eastern side of Greene County Courthouse.
Marshall said they are planning to “expand the market” and will unveil new activities and educational information during the season.
