A Belle Vernon man charged last month by state police in connection with a 2015 crash in which a Monongahela woman was killed waived his case to court Tuesday.

Tyler B. Belford, 35, of 612 Edwards Ave., was scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Curtis Thompson on charges of homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, failure to stop at a stop sign, careless driving, reckless driving and failure to drive at a safe speed in the Jan. 3, 2015, crash that killed 58-year-old Donna P. Simboli.

Belford reportedly went through a stop sign on Brownlee Road in Somerset Township, hitting the passenger side of a car that was going east on Route 136. Simboli, who was a passenger, was pronounced dead of multiple injuries about 90 minutes after the crash. The driver of the car, Christopher Weber of Charleroi, was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment.

Belford allegedly told the two troopers who responded to the crash that he stopped about 10 feet before the intersection before proceeding through it.

Trooper Todd Stephenson of the state police Collision and Reconstruction Unit inspected Belford’s pickup truck and found no mechanical defects. Data taken from the truck’s airbag control module indicated the truck was going about 25 mph before slowing to 19 mph and was traveling at 23 mph before braking at or near the point of impact. Based on that information, Stephenson determined that Belford did not stop as he indicated to the two troopers.

Belford remains free on $20,000 unsecured bond. He is scheduled to be formally arraigned on the charges July 26.
