Drug task force nabs Canton man
A Canton Township man was arrested Wednesday on a warrant obtained by detectives with Washington County Drug Task Force.
Dashawn Ellis Whitaker, 21, of 133 Charles St., was arrested on charges of conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance and conspiracy to criminally use a communication facility.
Court documents show between April 20 and May 15, task force detectives formulated a plan to purchase a quantity of heroin from Whitaker.
A phone call was reportedly placed to Whitaker’s cellphone by an informant to make arrangements to purchase heroin. Whitaker’s cellphone number was verified by state parole agents.
Plans were made to purchase heroin at a location in Washington. However when the purchase took place, another person delivered the drugs to the informant, according to court records. The heroin was turned over to a task force detective after the purchase.
Whitaker was also wanted for violating terms of his state parole. He pleaded guilty to a charge of possession with intent to deliver in January 2015, based on charges filed by South Strabane Township police stemming from an incident in June 2014.
Whitaker was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. He will have a preliminary hearing June 1 before District Judge Jay Weller.
