The Observer Publishing Co. has announced several promotions in the editorial departments at the Observer-Reporter and The Almanac.

Elizabeth Rogers has been promoted to executive editor of the Observer-Reporter, with oversight responsibilities for the editorial departments at the daily newspaper and the weekly Almanac, which covers community news in the South Hills.

Prior to her promotion, Rogers, who joined the O-R as a reporter in 1982, was editor of the newspaper since 2011. Earlier, she held positions of copy editor, night news editor and managing editor. She is a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania.

Katie Green, who served as editor of The Almanac since 2012, has been named editorial director of niche publications for Observer Publishing Co., responsible for the production of periodicals and monthly publications ranging from Living in Washington County, South Hills Living, Greene County Living and the recently launched Mon Valley Living to Southpointe Today, Total Health and The Energy Report, as well as numerous promotional publications from OPC’s advertising department.

A 2003 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh’s English writing program, Green will report to Lucy Northrop Corwin, the O-R’s director of news.

Harry Funk has been named managing editor of The Almanac. A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in business administration, Funk, who has 30 years of experience in community newspapers, was previously multimedia reporter at The Almanac.

Corwin said Green’s newly created position represents the first time the newspaper has had one person in charge of the full range of niche publications it publishes.

“It’s exciting to have all of the publications under a unified direction,” Corwin said.

She added that by bringing the two newspapers under the oversight of Rogers, “we’ll have the editorial departments be more cohesive while maintaining their own identities.”
