JEFFERSON – The Jefferson-Morgan School Board unanimously passed its preliminary budget Monday night with no tax increase expected for property owners next school year.

The board voted 7-0 to approve the preliminary $14.055 million budget that would keep property taxes at 27.11 mills.

The overall budget represents a 2.5 percent increase over last year’s spending plan.

“Everything is basically the same except increases for salaries and benefits,” business manager Jennifer Foringer said.

The budget is now available for public review at the school district’s administrative office. The board is expected to pass the final budget at its June 20 meeting.

The school board passed a 1.48-mill tax increase last year to help pay for the middle-senior high school renovation project.

School directors Lisa Mattish and Debbie Phillips were absent from Monday night’s meeting.
