Canon-McMillan approves new teachers contract
CANONSBURG – Canon-McMillan school directors approved a new 3-year contract for teachers Thursday by a vote of 7-0. The new contract pushes a 3 percent increase in salaries over the length of the contract, which starts on Aug 16. The expiring contract was set to end on Aug. 15.
There are no increases in healthcare contributions for teachers, but provisional language has been added that says spouses of new employees hired after Aug. 16 are not eligible for health insurance through the school district unless the spouse provides evidence that no other source of coverage would be available.
“We are happy that the CMEA contract has been ratified prior to its expiration,” said a joint statement from superintendent Michael Daniels, the board and the CMEA, “as everyone worked together in a non-traditional fashion to negotiate this contract without the presence of legal counsel.”
“The union did really hard work in this unusual and frustrating budgeting year,” said board member Joe Zupancic.
